• An engineered raised area with padding effectively reduces forces transmitted to the collarbone and a patented visor release system ensures the visor is released with the right amount of pre-determined force, regardless of impact angle.
• The lightweight outer shell is made of technologically advanced impact-resistant thermoplastic in three anatomical shell sizes, plus three EPS inner liner sizes with a combination of inner liner and cheek padding to offer 6 unique sizes and ensure the best fit and protection.
• The lower shell volume of the medium, large, XL and 2XL sizes has been revised to be approximately 3% larger to make the helmet easier to put on and take off; the increase in helmet volume has also improved impact handling performance, which is now 44% lower than the normal speed threshold.
• For the new ECE 22.06 standard, the SM5 achieves a regular speed impact score 44% better than the current 33%, as well as a low speed linear impact score 32% better and a high speed linear impact score 31% better compared to the standard in force.
• The internal and external surfaces are designed to minimize the effects of oblique impacts.To help counteract and mitigate rotational impact forces, Alpinestars engineered a proprietary technology creating a low friction surface on the inner surface of the EPS liner. Under the ECE 22.06 standard, which now includes rotational oblique impact assessment, the SM5 scored 70% under the new regulation.
• The multi-density internal lining ensures the right density in the right area, for greater impact absorption.
• The new chin guard profile has been redesigned, the base area has been specifically sculpted to provide a raised section, raised to free up the collarbone, with a new softer EPS liner that extends beyond the helmet shell itself, and it is covered in a more flexible rubber compound that reduces the chances of collarbone injury.
• The patented visor release system ensures that it is released with the right amount of pre-determined force, regardless of the angle of impact.
• Maximized ventilation and high levels of heat transfer thanks to multiple air intakes and exhaust ports.
• The ECE version of the SM5 helmet weighs 1,350 grams for the medium size and 1,420 grams for the ECE DOT version with shield.
• The visor has been designed to direct air into the ports, to improve airflow.
